Frank Taal Gallery proudly presents Bram Braam, Midas Zwaan, and Tom Woestenborghs at booth 57, ART ROTTERDAM 2019. From 7-10 February.
Bram Braam
Visual artist Bram Braam (NL, 1980) is captivated by the makeability of our daily surroundings. Apart from his photos, collages and assemblages Bram focusses on sculptural works of a subtle or –juxtaposing– monumental scale. Many influences can be found in these works: the American minimalism of Donald Judd and Sol LeWitt, the utopian thinking of architects as Le Corbusier, yet also the modernism of Bauhaus and De Stijl. In his work the schematic clarity of the Dutch landscape meets with the raw, urban chaos of Braam’s place of residence Berlin.
Midas Zwaan
Midas Zwaan work fades the boundaries between assembly, sculpture and installation. Midas Zwaan roams about various thrift stores across the country looking for so called ‘found objects’ which are selected based on form, material and meaning.
From there Midas Zwaan constructs baroque, surrealistic, carnivalesque, unorthodox assemblages, sculptures and installations which are adjacent to the notion border on the concept of ‘readymade’ objects.
Tom Woestenborghs
Tom Woestenborghs (1978) lives and works in Merkplas, Belgium. He received his Masters Degree Painter at the St. Lucas in Antwerpen. He is a Laureate / postgraduate of the HISK.
[..In his new series of works, Tom Woestenborghs depicts this tension between social control and our subdued need to revolt. Like the Michel Houellebecq of the fine arts he dissects contemporary life as he encounters it in the form of magazine pictures, internet memes, videos and random photography. An observer rather than an activist he exposes the power structures underlying our highly regulated society. Unlike Houellebecq he’s not cynical, incorporating subtle nods – his own form of rebellion...]
