The skulls as symbol and dark sign of transience. We come against the genre scenes in the 17th century, in Goya’s charges against the horrors of the war and in the work of the first modernists Van Gogh and Cézanne. Pascal Bastiaenen paints them large and mysterious, showing the black craters of anatomy alternates with blood red, shiny gold and snow white.
