Aldo van den Broek – MADE IN BELGRADE

After his successful first Dutch solo-exhibition at Nieuw Dakota in Amsterdam, Aldo van den Broek quickly became a well-known artist amongst the art public, journalists, movie directors and professional art collectors within the Netherlands and abroad.

His awe-inspiring installations and collages are made from many layered cardboard by cutting and tearing it up, from used paper, glue and paint. With these materials Aldo has found a way to depict and express the somber beauty of haunted cities, either real or imaginary, like Berlin or for the current exhibition: Belgrade.

The work contains many elements, like underground movements, history and romanticism in which architecture and persons seem to come together. It shows Aldo’s fascination for the human strife towards consistency on the one hand and freedom on the other, and the resulting destruction.
