Frank Taal Gallery presents Mike Ottink at Amsterdam Drawing from 22 - 25 September 2016
In his projects, Mike Ottink investigates sensory perception and experience in a playful way. He works intuitively on his own visual language, which creates a translation from one sensory discipline to another. Current paintings have emerged from drawing graphic scores / scores. They are stand-alone images that relate to his 'fleeting' installations or performances in sound and moving images. They are an alternative to sound photos or video recordings, which in his eyes corrupt the moment of performance.
His work resonates with David Bohm's ideas about 'Quantum coherence': 'we live in a holistic medium in which everything coexists. The so-called 'Implicate order' To stretch the boundaries of perception, he makes his own drawing and painting tools. He also builds self-developed instruments for audiovisual performances and installations (VHSUHF) in collaboration with Brian McKenna. In this way he finds a way to make rapture experienceable and to express the invisible or inaudible.
